Hints for Lovers - Arnold Haultain

Even the renegade, if loved by a girl, will be upheld by that girl through thick and thin—secretly, it may be, for often the girl, nevertheless devotedly, and only under compulsion will he listen to the detractor: he may desert her, or, if he sticks to her, he may beat her; no matter: he holds her heart in the hollow of his hand. But, But...

Modern Sex Techniques - Robert Street

NOT so long ago, the British Bar Association admitted that the principal factor responsible for English divorces is sexual incompatibility. The Association is to be praised for having undertaken an analysis of the unfortunate and important divorce problem and for having made public its findings. There is no doubt in the author's mind that similar studies made in other countries would result in like conclusions; sex is governed and controlled by a natural and universal law which is common to all individuals, and all persons are subject to its influence in greater or lesser degree.

Whether one cares to admit it or not, it is a fundamental and vital force in preserving the home and family. Its destructive effect upon marriage results primarily from the fact that proper sexual procedure is taken for granted, that it is regarded as an uncomplicated phenomenon. This has tended to breed ignorance injurious to the permanency of marriage and has marred the future happiness of many women.

If this thesis be accepted, then the vital problem which it poses must be solved through intelligent, practical and instructive discussion capable of being understood and followed by the layman with beneficial results.

The purpose of this book, then, is to concentrate on the subject of sex, to do it with unprecedented and yet un-offensive frankness that leaves nothing for imaginative guesswork, and to take up the matter where previous treatments leave it. Its motives are simple: to enlighten and protect the innocent, further to educate the experienced, to adjust the sexually incompatible, and to strengthen the foundation of the home. It emphasizes the problems faced by women only because they are the principal sufferers of their own and man's sexual ignorance.

D.H. Lawrence's Greatest Love Stories

D.H. Lawrence is one of the most important literary figures in the 20th century. He was also one of the most reviled and misunderstood during his time. This collection of 3 of his most famous works, Aaron's Rod, Sons and Lovers and Women in Love in pdf ebook versions are among the most famous and most important of his works.

Sons and Lovers is probably his first masterpiece. It is a story of a budding artist, named Paul Morel. While his descriptions of sex in this book were shockingly frank for the period it should not obscure the fact that Sons and Lovers is more of a vivid portrayal of the provincial life of the working class in his times.

Aaron's Rod is a story of Aaron Sissons who trapped in a loveless marriage decides to go to Italy in hope of getting recognized as a musician but along the way met an aristocratic lady whom he had an affair with.

Women in Love was a sequel to D.H. Lawrence's The Rainbow (1915). Women in Love is a continuing story of the Brangwen Sisters, Gudrun and Ursula Brangwen. The story was set in Britain and through the snows of the Alps at the time of the First World War.

Like his two previous works, Women in Love caused an uproar due to its sexual content. One critic called it..."here is dirt in heaps — festering, putrid heaps which smell to high Heaven."

Summing it up, these three novels Aaron's Rod, Sons and Lovers and Women in Love are not pornography, but are rather towering artistic expressions of a literary genius who did not live to see his works appreciated by the literary community.

For Auld Lang Syne - Ray Woodward

Get not your friends by bare compliments, but by giving them sensible tokens of your love. It is well worth while to learn how to win the heart of man the right way. Force is of no use to make or preserve a friend, who is an animal that is never caught and tamed but by kindness and pleasure. Excite them by your civilities, and show them that you desire nothing more than their satisfaction; oblige with all your soul that friend who has made you a present of his own.

Happiness and Marriage - Elizabeth (Jones) Towne

I know women who, under similar conditions, have elected to wait; women whose consciences would not allow them to leave a kind husband or young children for the sake of gratifying their passion for another man. I have known these same women to despise a year or two later, the men they had thought themselves passionately and everlastingly in love with. They have never got over thanking whatever gods there be that they were saved from that rash step. I have known many cases of this kind, and have received many letters of fervent thanks from both men and women who followed my private counsel to let time prove the new attraction before severing old ties and making new ones.

Sane Sex Life and Sane Sex Living - H.W. Long new

It is a matter of misfortune, and yet one of not infrequent occurrence, that the sex organs of husband and wife are not well matched; and that trouble, sometimes of a most serious nature, results. When this condition is found to exist, it should be treated sanely and wisely, and the chances are many to one that the difficulty can be overcome, to the full satisfaction of both parties concerned.

The Woman Who Did - Grant Allen

This is the controversial book, about a woman who refuses to marry her lover because of stifling marriage laws, that Allen dedicated to his wife.

The Intermediate Sex - Edward Carpenter new

In its various forms, so far as we know them, Love seems always to have a deep significance and a most practical importance to us little mortals. In one form, as the mere semi-conscious Sex-love, which runs through creation and is common to the lowest animals and plants, it appears as a kind of organic basis for the unity of all creatures; in another, as the love of the mother for her offspring— which may also be termed a passion—it seems to pledge itself to the care and guardianship of the future race; in another, as the marriage of man and woman, it becomes the very foundation of human society.

Three Contributions to the Theory of Sex - Sigmund Freud

It is a part of popular belief about the sexual impulse that it is absent in childhood and that it first appears in the period of life known as puberty. This, though a common error, is serious in its consequences and is chiefly due to our present ignorance of the fundamental principles of the sexual life. A comprehensive study of the sexual manifestations of childhood would probably reveal to us the existence of the essential features of the sexual impulse, and would make us acquainted with its development and its composition from various sources.

The Superstition of Divorce - G.K. Chesterton

I am primarily more concerned with the arbitrary method than with the anarchic result. Very much as the old tyrant would turn any number of men out to grass, so the new tyrant would turn any number of women into grass-widows. Anyhow, to vary the legendary symbolism, it never seems to occur to the king in this fairy tale that the gold crown on his head is a less, and not a more, sacred and settled ornament than the gold ring on the woman's finger.

The Delights of Wisdom Pertaining to Conjugial Love - Emanuel Swedenborg

After observing these things, the angel led his companions through various winding paths, till he brought them at length to a most beautiful grove of roses, surrounded by olive, orange, and citron trees. Here they found many persons sitting in a disconsolate posture, with their heads reclined on their hands, and exhibiting all the signs of sorrow and discontent. The companions of the angel accosted them, and inquired into the cause of their grief.

The Nervous Housewife - Abraham Myerson

Marriage is variously regarded. “It is a sacrament, a religious sanction, and not to be dissolved by anything but Death.” So say a very large group of our people. “It is a contract, governed by law, entered into under certain conditions and to be dissolved only by law.” This is the attitude of practically all the governments of the world and rapidly is becoming the dominant point of view. Though the religious combat this conception of marriage, no marriage is legal on religious sanction alone, and the increase of divorce among those claiming to be Catholics is an undisputed fact.
